“I love Weymouth!
After first leaving Weymouth in the late 1970’s for the bright lights of London, and the excitement of university life, I am happy to have returned to my “Roots” in this beautiful part of the country.
After graduating with a degree in Maths and an MSc in Business, I began my career in Market Research, first with the International Wod Secretariat and then with Research International (one of the leading research agencies worldwide). I worked for a wide range of well known clients, FMCG companies and Government Agencies on projects covering consumer attitudes, new product testing, packaging research and advertising effectiveness.
After an exciting period of time enjoying all that the city has to offer, the relentless pressure of the “rat race” and the “pull” of the sea proved just too strong and I decided to make the move back “home”.
There followed a period of bizarre contrasts as my employers convinced me to continue working from home in a satellite office jokingly refined to as “R.I, Weymouth”, and my working life rotated between designing research studies, analysing data and writing reports from the comfort of a room with a sea view, interspersed with frequent trips back up to London for Board Room presentations.
The arrival of 3 amazing children a few years later brought another series of major challenges to life as we know it – and a whole different outlook!
I soon became involved with the local playgroup and when my thirds child was born, decided to undertake a PGCE and become a teacher.
I find the whole area of child development and learning absolutely fascinating, and teaching, first in a state school and latterly at Thornlow, enormously rewarding; no two days (and no two children) are ever the same!
Free time still seems to be something in rather short supply, but I do have a "craft room" at home where I spend many happy hours, as well as attending a French Conversation Class and Scottish Country Dancing Group.”
