Mrs A. Stanton Cert. Ed

Head of Pastoral Care, Teacher of Music & Drama

"My background is in international education. My first teaching post after qualifying was in Ashtead, Surrey at a public school for girls, with easy access to Heathrow Airport, with a boarding facility for the older students. The first child to whom I taught English was Japanese, a delightful little girl called Yoko, who is probably by now a grandmother! We had many other international students, so it was a good grounding for my next move to the Anglican International School in Jerusalem where I taught children from over forty different nationalities. Latterly, as Head of Elementary School (ages 3 – 13 years) my job involved meeting each new family and settling the children in to school. I also travelled extensively to the many fascinating Biblical sites available at that time and increased my knowledge of the Jewish way of life and celebration of festivals.

I returned to the U.K. in 1995 to a caring role, only returning to teaching five years later with a new role as an Early Years Practitioner at Dorchester Preparatory School, moving to Thornlow in a similar role in 2001.

I love my time spent with the Nursery children having a particular interest in the concept of language development through play, creative and physical activities. With the older children I put on a musical each year, encouraging the growth of confidence through choral and dramatic presentations.

I am also responsible for pastoral care throughout the school, offering a confidential outlet for children to discuss both good and bad things happening in their lives".
