Mrs E. Masino B.Ed (Hons)
General Subjects Teacher
When I was aged eight years old, I decided I wanted to become a teacher, training at Rolle College of Education after leaving Weymouth Grammar School. Since then, I’ve taught in various Weymouth Schools for over thirty years, from 4 year-olds up to 17 year olds! I especially enjoy the endless opportunities for learning that computing and the internet have opened up- looking at earth from satellite images then zooming in to ‘street view’ makes geography come alive, creating an image then animating it to help tell a story for younger children gives English a sparkle and digital photography creates a powerful record of field trips.
When I’m not teaching I enjoy working in my garden and am attempting to grow vegetables successfully! I love growing flowers and pottering about in my greenhouse. I am ‘helped’ by my yellow Labrador who suns herself while I garden. I have two rescued rabbits which live in the garden in a large run and they help by munching up the weeds! As my husband and I are remodelling the garden (again), the list of gardening jobs never ends.
I also enjoy Music and I play the piano. I have a collection of CDs ranging from classical to musicals, ballads to instrumental which I enjoy listening to.
I also have a voluntary job which is a Befriender to Elderly People. It is very interesting meeting to chat with people and hearing about their life experiences.
However, my most important job in life is being a mum. My son has just turned 18 and hopes to study Astrophysics at University.
I am very happy to be working at Thornlow School with its friendly and helpful staff and pupils. The class sizes mean a lot of attention and help can be given to each child which makes my role as a teacher very satisfying!
