Home Economics
Knowing how to run a home, prepare and cook food, then tidy, wash and dry up afterwards, is a vital life skill which brings great pleasure. There's a very serious side to it, too.
When children learn about food they learn about healthy eating and, above all, how to make healthy choices.
Every child at Thornlow has a weekly Home Economics lesson.
We like to introduce children to ingredients outside their comfort zone. We introduce food and ingredients from different countries and cultures. Children learn about hygiene and how to work safely. They write up recipes.
Children learn traditional crafts such as knitting.
The children take home what they have made - and a great many have started cooking and creating at home in their spare time!
